Log #12 - Oil Service and G266 Sensor Replacement
Engine Oil, Filters and Sensor ConnectionJuly 28, 2026
Oil Drain and Sump Plug
The aluminium sump had previously been replaced after cracking. Although the oil had covered less than 10,000 km, about a year had passed since the last change. The drain plug was removed with an 18 mm tool and replaced with a new Febi Bilstein plug, tightened to the specified 33 Nm.
G266 Sensor Replacement
The old G266 oil-level/temperature sensor was removed using 6 mm Allen bolts. The sump mating surface was cleaned with brake cleaner, and the electrical connector was treated with contact cleaner before the replacement sensor was installed.
Oil and Filter Service
The oil filter was replaced using a Rico 76/14 filter cup. The air filter and pollen filter were also renewed. The fuel filter was extremely difficult to remove; the fuel found in the old filter contained muddy deposits, which were noted for the maintenance record.
Engine Oil Specification
Four litres of Castrol GTX 5W-40 were added. The oil specification had been checked against VW 502.00 for the intended use.
Conclusion
The service addressed the oil change, filter renewal and G266 sensor fault. The condition of the old fuel filter was recorded as a separate observation for future diagnosis.
