Log #3 - First Cleaning Session and Electrical Findings
First Cleaning Session and Electrical FindingsJune 16, 2026
Key Work Completed
- First detailed cleaning of the Montreal II wheels
- Engine bay cleaning
- Replacement of the left fender signal
- Replacement of the oil dipstick
- Interior vacuuming
- Fluctuation detected in the interior lighting system
- Cigarette lighter system check
Wheel Cleaning
After the ordered equipment arrived, I started the first detailed cleaning session on the Montreal II wheels.
Work done:
- Divortex Iron Fallout Remover was used.
- The outer faces of the wheels were cleaned in detail.
- I removed years of brake dust and iron particle buildup.
After cleaning:
- The wheels’ original finish became visible again.
- Stone chips and usage marks hidden under the dirt layer became easier to see.
- I confirmed again that there was no structural damage.
Because the available equipment was limited, I could not fully clean the inner barrels. I planned to return to that area later with the right wheel brush.
The orange color that appeared on the brake discs came from the iron fallout remover. After driving and braking, it disappeared completely.
Left Fender Signal
I installed the new left fender signal housing and socket that had arrived earlier.
After installation:
- Light distribution improved noticeably.
- The old UV-faded housing had been reducing light output more than expected.
- The result looked closer to the OEM appearance.
I decided to do the same job on the right side.
Engine Bay Cleaning
I cleaned the heavy dust buildup in the engine bay.
Products used:
- Selsil Engine Cleaning Spray
- Detailing brushes
After cleaning:
- The plastic surfaces looked noticeably better.
- The dirt layer on the engine cover was removed.
- The hoses and surrounding parts became easier to inspect.
I did not see any fluid leak or unusual finding during cleaning.
Oil Dipstick Replacement
I replaced the engine oil dipstick because the minimum level marker was broken.
Now the engine oil level can be checked more accurately.
Interior Cleaning
The vehicle interior was vacuumed in detail.
During the job:
- I removed dirt from under the seats and from the floor coverings.
- I also prepared the interior for seat and carpet cleaning with the Deerma BY200.
Cigarette Lighter System
I installed the new ashtray and cigarette lighter unit.
Tests after installation:
- The adapter still did not work.
- The fault may be related to the fuse or the wiring.
I decided to check the fuse box during the next diagnostic step.
Interior Lighting System
During an evening drive, I noticed flickering in the instrument cluster, climate panel, and other interior lights.
Symptoms:
- The lights occasionally went out completely
- They started working again after a short while
- The issue repeated irregularly
Initial suspects:
- Headlight switch
- Brightness control module (dimmer)
- Electrical connections
I marked these as possible causes.
I decided to investigate the source of the fault in more detail later.
Conclusion
By the end of the third day, the car looked noticeably better. The first detailed cleaning of the Montreal II wheels was complete, the engine bay was cleaned, and one of the first lighting parts, the left fender signal, was replaced.
At the same time, I found a new electrical issue in the interior lighting system. The next steps will focus on finding and fixing the source of that problem.
